Rick always takes a day off from work on or around our anniversary. This year, he took off Friday and we had a very low key day planned. Actually, we had nothing planned. In the morning, we headed out to drop Gwen off at preschool.
After we had been driving for just a few minutes, I asked Rick if he remembered to grab the movie rental we planned on returning to the Redbox after we dropped Gwen off. He said, "I put it on top of the car while I was buckling Gwen in."
"And?..."
Yep, you guessed it. He forgot it was there. We turned around the drove back to the house, hoping to see it somewhere in the ditch. No luck. We then headed back out and drove Gwen to preschool, still remaining on high alert, hoping to see it somewhere.
After not finding it, we chalked it up to bad luck and figured we would just pay the replacement fee.
We then headed out to enjoy some breakfast at Patty's Eggs Nest and then went home to hang out until it was time to pick up Gwen.
As we pulled into our neighborhood, I spotted something red in the middle of the road. Rick pulled over and it was the movie case. Yes, just the case. He then noticed the DVD itself facedown in the road a few yards away. It was chipped and scratched up.
At home I called the 1-800 number on the Redbox case and told the representative that we had a small mishap with the movie and that it was no longer working. I told him the story and he said they hear stuff like that all the time. He then asked me to get a pen so that I could write something down.
He gave me two codes and I asked for clarification. "Wait a second, are these codes for free movies?"
Guy: "Yes ma'am, you said that you were unable to watch the movie because it was damaged. The free movies are for the inconvenience."
Me: "No, we watched the movie just fine. The damage didn't occur until after we already watched it."
Guy: "Well, you can use the codes for the inconvenience anyway."
Me: "Shouldn't we be paying you to replace the movie? We are the ones that damaged it."
Guy: "We can't be certain that it was you that damaged it."
Me: "Maybe I wasn't clear when I explained that it fell off our of car and then was run over several times. I'm pretty sure that was our fault."
Guy: "There's no need to point fingers."
I could see that I was getting nowhere. I apologized again, thanked him, and hung up. I guess it pays to be honest!

Hahahahaha!!!! That is hilarious!
Is this a real story? It's like one of those stories you read on a the never ending forwarded chain email. You should start one of those...course don't send it to me, because I've already read it. (That was one funny story! Thanks for sharing!)
I liked this so much I had to read it to Brett. We both got a good laugh out of it and agreed that Redbox was smart for having such good costumer service:) Way to go honesty!!!
Whatever.
