Creepy Baby Monitor

I never used to think that baby monitors were creepy. That changed when I read a story about one from a book called "Ghost Stories of Washington". This book shares "true" tales told first hand by people living in Washington.

There is a story about a couple who had a baby monitor. At night, they would often hear the sound of a baby frantically crying and rush to their baby's room only to find him sleeping sound. They tried to find reassurance by telling themselves that the monitor must be picking up another frequency. Although the closest home was miles away- and it's occupants were an older couple.

They finally moved to a new house and weren't using the monitor any more. When the baby was 18 months old, the mom was going to do some gardening outside with a friend while her son was napping. She hooked up the baby monitor and went about her business.

Now comes the part that gives me goosebumps...While she was outside, she heard an old lady's voice over the baby monitor saying, "This little piggy went to the market...". Even more disturbing was the distinct sound of her son's giggle.

Of course she ran into the house and went up to the bedroom, only to find her son fast asleep in his crib. She readjusted his blanket and he rolled over, took his thumb out of his mouth and mumbled, "piggy."

I know, I'm a wuss, but that story totally spooks me.

Right before Fiona was born, we bought a video baby monitor thinking it might come in handy. We set it up in Gwen's room, but it ended up staying there because watching Gwen at night was so darn entertaining. It was set up at the end of her bed and my eyes grew very accustomed to the image of her room from that vantage point.

One afternoon Gwen was in "quiet time." I heard some odd noises and went to check things out on the monitor that was on my bed. My heart skipped a beat when I was greeted by a sight I wasn't expecting...

After I recovered from my near-heart attack, I laughed. Funny little Gwen had put one of her babies to bed and readjusted the monitor so that I could keep an eye on her.

Realizing that Gwen is way too old for a baby monitor, it was moved to Fiona's room a few days later.
