This Christmas was just a little bit better than all previous Christmases. Do you want to know why? Probably not, but I'm going to tell you anyway.
Throughout the Christmas season, I'm always haunted by a certain sound. I hear it on and off all day long. It pushes me to the brink of insanity. As it gets closer to Christmas, it gets worse.
Christmas music? No.
The sound of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer being watched for the 100th time? No.
The sound of Gwen pushing the button of a stuffed Christmas dog that plays horrible "music"? No.
This nightmare inducing noise is the sound of Christmas cards falling off the wall and landing on the floor.
My method of displaying Christmas cards has always been to tape them on the wall. They never stay up. Once one falls on the ground, I put extra tape on it before I put it back up. I never works. They always end up falling back down.
Cute Gwen is so sweet. The first couple days in December, I would be upstairs and hear the dreaded sound on a card falling on the ground. Then I would hear the sound of Gwen dragging a chair down the hall so that she could stand on it and put the card back up. Witnessing Gwen try and fix the problem was almost worth enduring the noise. But not quite.
After a few days of becoming increasingly agitated, I decided to take matters into my own hands.
My dear friend, Lisa, made Fiona darling hairclips when she was born. I was so smitten with these clips that I bought my own set at Sally's Beauty Supply and have made my own since. I realized that these cute little clips would work great as Christmas card holders.
With my trusty glue gun as my companion, I used a little ribbon and a few buttons to turn jazz up some plain hair clips. Then, I secured some yarn on the wall with push pins and I was good to go.
I took the above photos as I was taking down Christmas cards this year. Rick admonished me for taking the photo after most of the cards came down. He said that people would count the number of cards on the wall and worry that we don't have many friends that love us enough to send us cards. So here's the rest in case you are worried.
Thanks, Lisa, for your inspired decision to send some hairclips our way. You have indeed put me out of my misery.
