Update

Today we had an amniocentesis to determine if the lungs of the baby are mature enough for delivery on Thursday.

They did an Ultrasound first that took over an hour. The ultrasound tech was an intern and I swear she measured every single bone in the baby's body- twice. She also determined that the baby weighs approx 7 lbs 4 oz. What? At 37 weeks? 5 days ago they determined that she was around 5 lbs 11 oz, so somebody is wrong. I'm kinda hoping the lady today was wrong because it seems that a 5 pound baby would be easier to push out compared to a 7 pound baby. Ok, really, at this point we just want a healthy baby.

I really liked the doctor I saw today. She didn't beat around the bush which is something I appreciate in a doctor. One of the first things she said was something like..."So, you've got cholestasis, and babies sometimes die from this and we don't really know why." I know it's not really fun to hear that my baby could die, but it's not like I didn't already know this. My regular doctor has taken the opposite route, almost pretending that nothing is wrong, so it's nice to get the information without all the sugar coating.

The amniocentesis itself was slightly terrifying, but the anticipation is the worst part. It started out alright until the pain hit. And then it got a little freaky when the tube filled up with blood rather than amniotic fluid. Apparently I had a contraction right when the doctor was inserting the needle and so instead of drawing fluid, she drew blood from my uterus. She finally got what she needed and we were able to go home after an uneventful non-stress test.

Now we just wait. Originally we were supposed to get the results within two hours, but since the ultrasound lady took her sweet time beforehand, we will have to wait until the morning for the results. Either way, we are having the baby on Thursday. It's just a matter of finding out whether I need to go in tomorrow for a steroid shot or not.

In other news, Gwen seems to be doing better without her binky. Tonight she fell asleep within 10 minutes, which was such a relief. She also hasn't had a potty accident in a few days. Things might get a little crazy after the baby comes, but tonight gave me hope that there is life after binkies.

Thanks for all of your love and support! We will continue to keep you posted!

I appreciate when doctors are straight-up about stuff, too. Hope the test results come back good.

It'll be so much easier to push out your second baby... At least it was for me. Ainsley was only 5 1/2 pounds and she took the longest to come out. Aftyn and Gavin pushed themselves out. :) Best of luck with your delivery!
