Thanks to everybody for your comments and suggestions!
After feeling very distressed after my last post, I'm happy to report that things are much better! Gwen went to sleep on Tuesday night without anymore fuss and has been tear free (well, almost) since then.
On Tuesday night Rick and I decided that one present from the Binky Fairy wasn't enough for how hard this is for Gwen. Wednesday morning, she woke up to a new toy vacuum- thanks, Kristen! On Wednesday night, there was a new nightgown waiting for Gwen to wear at bedtime. Thursday morning, there was a package on mini chicklets gum that Gwen excitedly ate for breakfast. This morning, the Binky Fairy left a pinwheel for Gwen. With each little surprise has been a note from the Binky Fairy expressing love for her and admiration for how hard she has worked to give up her binky.
Also, throughout the week, I've continued to tell Gwen that giving up the binky should be her choice and it still isn't too late to trade her toys back for it. Gwen insists that she doesn't miss her binky at all.
I'm hoping she continues to adjust quickly to this change. The hardest part now is that it still takes her a while to fall asleep at night (usually 30-45 min) and she's been waking up about an hour earlier in the morning. Lack of sleep equals a moody little girl. I'm sure this will improve soon, and in the meantime, we are just trying to be patient with her and sympathetic to the situation.
What a trooper this girl is!

sounds like the perfect solution!
You guys are doing great! What a trooper Gwen is! I am not looking forward to the day we take Jack's "Paci" away.
And what a trooper you are. Good job, Mom!
