Trick or Treat!

This year, Halloween was extra-fun. On Halloween night, we invited a few of Gwen's church friends over (and their parents, of course!) We spent the evening with the Simpsons, Johnsons, and Blacks (minus Logan, who was out of town)

We started with a little potluck dinner. We had pasta, jello salad, bread, and Traci made TWO homemade pies. She is amazing.

After dinner, the kids got their costumes on and prepared to go trick-or-treating around the cul-de-sac.

Trick-or-treating

After trick-or-treating, we had the kids do the old eat the doughnut off the string game. We had no idea it would end up being to hysterical- but it was. They all followed the rules at first and tried to do it without their hands. Eventually, they started using hands, and it was funny how the older ones lost their patience first, while the youngest ones held out. Although Gwen is the oldest, Olivia who is the next oldest used her hands first. Maybe she is advanced in her problem solving skills? Gwen used her hands next, and then Lucy. Cute little Kade, who is the youngest, was very patient and didn't start using his hands for quite some time. They were all adorable.

I must have watched this little video of them with their doughnuts a million times.

After the doughnuts, we let the kids smack around a pinata that Rick and Gwen made. Again, SO CUTE! I love this age. Most of the kids were very gentle with the pinata, but Gwen came after it with a fury that was a bit shocking.

Gwen was so hysterical in this video...

After the pinata, the kids did some Halloween coloring pages to wind down a little. It was close to bedtime, so we started preparing the kids for the idea. Leah took Kade home since they had to be up early in the morning. The Johnsons and the Simpsons were brave and put their girls down at our house. The girls were angels and went to sleep which allowed the adults to stay up late and play games. We laughed late into the night and learned more about each other than we probably want to know. We had an amazing time!
