Turkey Trot

I've always wanted to do a Turkey Trot, but somehow have never gotten around to it. And let's be honest here, I haven't done much running lately, so it might be a while before this dream is fulfilled.

In lieu of joining in on some of the local runs, we decided to host a little Thanksgiving party for Gwen and the neighborhood girls on Thanksgiving morning.

First, they colored runner's bibs and made drumsticks hats...

Before the big race (which was just 5 houses up and back) they did a little stretching while getting pumped up with some Eye of the Tiger...

Ready....set....

...Go!

It was freezing, hence opting for a sprint instead of a distance race. Fiona didn't really get the running part...

Speedy Savannah crossed the finish line first!

We finished the party up with some hot cider, ginger snaps, and gumdrop turkeys! Did I mention this whole thing took almost no planning? That's my kind of party!

Somebody is Five: The Party

For Gwen's party, she requested a dinosaur theme. She's really into dinosaurs right now!

To start off the party, we had coloring set up for the kids to do while the rest arrived...

Rick and Gwen were really excited for the guests to come!

When our first guests arrived, MG and Lesielli, they helped color the "Pin the Tooth on the Dinosaur game."

It looked great and the kids loved playing it- especially Gwen. She has requested this game for the last 3 years.

Next they played "Cave Corner". We played dinosaur music and the kids danced around pretending to be dinosaurs. When the music stopped, they would run to a corner (each was marked with a different colored cave). We would then roll the dice, which had colors on it corresponding with each corner. If their cave color came up, that meant their volcano exploded and they were out of the game. We continued until there was only one person left. The last one still playing was the winner!

Next we got all scientific and made a volcano erupt.

We did all sorts of lava colors.

Next the cake! We did a volcano cake real steaming lava!

Present time...

We had Gwen take a picture with each guest and the gift they gave her.

Gwen and Lucy (and a sneaky Charlie)

All the kiddos

And a silly picture for good measure

Next was a dinosaur version of "Duck Duck Goose". I can't remember what dinosaur names we used...I think it kept changing!

The kids got to pretend to be paleontologists and looked for dinosaur parts (puzzle pieces) all over the house. Then they put the puzzle together to assemble the dinosaur.

The last game we played was a dinosaur version of "Hot Potato". I think it was "Hot Lava Rock" or something of that nature.

I forgot to take pictures of the party favor (darn it!) but they were pretty simple. We had dinosaur bags filled with dinosaur sticker books, dinosaur suckers, dinosaur fruit snacks, little rubber dinosaurs, and dinosaur stencils.
Gwen had a fabulous time. It was wonderful for her to spend a little bit more time with her friends before we moved.

Little Pumpkin Shower

In early November, my friend Candice and I threw a baby shower for our good friend, Dzana. She and her husband tried for years to have a baby, so this little guy is truly a miracle.

Since it is Fall, we settled on an autumn theme. I kept the decorations simple with pumpkins and candles.

The food was not as simple. I just can't help myself! We dined on...

Apple juice (ok, that's simple)...

Pumpkin dip...

Pumpkin seeds, pumpkin candies, and mini "acorns"...

My friend Traci brought the most amazing caramel toffee dip which is fabulous with apples...

A veggie tray to ease the guilt...

Artichoke dip...

And the masterpiece was my chocolate dipped cake balls. I had to take three photos of them...

I had cute little pumpkin-themed thank you notes for Dzana to bring home...

I also found the cutest little pumpkin suckers that made nice party favors...

To go with the pumpkin theme, we had pumpkin scented candles for the prizes. I especially love how the suckers looked in the vase...

We played two games ( a nursery rhyme quiz and a game where you put baby items in lunch sacks and the guest have to feel the sacks and guess what is inside)...

Mostly I think people just enjoyed visiting...

Of course, there were presents...

Rick came down after a while and couldn't help mingling and snacking on the good food...

We had a great time- I hope Dzana did too!
