One: The Party

Ok, last birthday post!

We had a little party in honor of Fiona's first birthday. We invited just the grandparents on both sides to keep it low key.

Gwen was in charge of the decorations. To go with our monkey/banana theme, she found pictures online and printed them out with the help of Daddy. She cut them out and taped them around the house. We also bought yellow and brown balloons. Actually, the brown balloons ended up looking more red than brown when they were blown up. Whatever.

Gwen also drew pictures of some of the party guests and taped them up.

First we played "pin the banana on the peel". Gwen loves all versions of this game. No party is a party without it.

Fiona also has a passion for socks. She can often be found wandering around with a sock hanging out of her mouth. On honor of that, we played sock basketball. Fiona loved chasing around her socks as they were being thrown in the family room.

Fiona also loves knocking down block towers. This is sometimes a source of frustration for Gwen because Fiona will often knock something down before Gwen is even finished. For the last game, we decided to embrace Fiona's love of destroying. Each participant had an equal amount of blocks to use for building a tower. While the tower building was under progress, Fiona was kept away from the construction site. Once everybody was done, we set Fiona loose. The winner was the one with the tower knocked down first by Fiona. I want to say my dad won, but I'm not sure.

For dinner we had chicken salad sandwiches on croissants, pasta salad, and watermelon. I don't think Fiona ate much of it, but the rest of us enjoyed it!

Next, presents.

For dessert we had banana cream pie.

Fiona and Gwen got little mini pies. Fiona got to use the "1" candle again.

Fiona didn't dislike the pie as much as the cake. She seemed to warm up to it after a while with much coaxing from Gwen.

At one point she tried to chuck the whole thing on the ground.

She thought that was funny.

Gosh, she's cute. And one. Where did the time go?
